When you do this pattern, you will especially want to access a state of playfulness, childlikeness, fun, and pretending. Do this for yourself, do it also for the participants. When you do this, it will help to put your audience into the right state for the pattern. Begin by either telling a bit of the story of Steve de Shazer or just jumping in and reading verbatim “The Miracle Question.”

The point of this pattern is to meta-state your genius state with a state that allows you to step out of the thinking that has created a problem that it cannot solve. Quote Einstein’s famous quote. “The kind of thinking that created the problem cannot solve the problem. You need a different kind of thinking to solve it.” Set this as your frame. What you are about to experience is the shift from stuck thinking to a kind of thinking that allows you to find a solution based on a different kind of thinking.
