Preface

This document was originally written in 1987 as a Wineskins Supplement.
Wineskins was a monthly journal of Good-News Encounters. It was a
ministry that I was involved with for some 12 years. This Supplement #12
on Biblical Hermeneutics was to offer devices of hermeneutical importance
for understanding the biblical text. About it Roger Ferguson, the Minister
at Clifton Christian Church wrote:

“This excellent paper covers a difficult subject very well in a short space.
Michael should do his next book on how we develop our theologies and
makes this a chapter in the book. Undoubtedly this is a difficult subject
that too few of us know much about. Our tendency is to be lazy and
comfortable with our psychological predispositions about theology. This
essay challenges that laziness although I’m afraid that too few are
teachable enough to benefit, I personally think it is great.”

As a Scripture Analysis, this explores the language of the Bible with an
intent to understand the real theology, philosophy, and psychology behind
the language of the Bible and how to understand it accurately.
