If you’re going to coach and especially if you want to be an excellent Meta-Coach, you have to engage the heart. This raises two questions:

• What does it mean to engage the heart?

• How do you engage the heart?

Engaging the heart is a shorthand way for describing making contact with a person’s inmost values and meanings which touches their central identity and emotions. Doing this then touches them in a deep way or at their highest frames of mind and emotion. It is shorthand also for treating people as people, as human beings, and not just “clients,” “patients,” “customers,” the “cases” that come through our companies. It is to bring a human and humane factor into the way we relate to them.
