BECOMING

A MEANING MASTER

Neuro-Semantics is obviously about meaning—it is built into our name. It’s is also at the core of what we most essentially do—we identify how we create all sorts of meanings by thinking. By the way we think, we create representational meaning, meta-level meanings, value meanings, anticipation meanings, intentional meanings and scores and scores more. We do this because every human being is at his and her core—a meaning-maker. It’s what we do and we cannot not do this. It is inevitable given the functioning of our nervous systems, brain, and mind.

Meaning-making is also inevitable because, unlike animals with content instincts, we are born not-knowing. And not-knowing, we now have to learn. NLP arose as a model of how we think and therefore learn. As we experience the territory we construct mental maps which we then use to guide how we respond and act. These maps encode our meanings. Good maps –> good responding –> good living (health, wealth, productivity, loving relationships, etc.). Therefore in becoming a Meaning Master is to actualize your highest values, understandings, and meanings so they inform and guide your actions.
