If someone said to you “put together a 90 minute presentation on mud”... could you do it? If this seems like an odd question, let me explain.

A lot of trainers I’ve noticed both in and out of the NLP world are only in business because they rely solely on the ‘information’ they are teaching and not their skills as a trainer. This makes them more of a conventional teacher simply ‘reiterating information from a syllabus’. I know of several NLP trainers who did their trainers training and have not up-skilled or done any other presentation training since. For the good ones, they are still mindful of using good trainer skills. For others, they simply rely on the information being good and (it seems) ‘train’ by the seat of their pants.

In a public training environment such as an NLP Practitioner course – where participants are there by choice – they can get away with this a bit more than in a corporate environment where there may be attendees who simply aren’t interested, consider the training a waste of their time, or may even feel hostile or insulted that some outside trainer is telling them how to do their job.
