“Your network is your net worth” Porter Gale

Why networking? Investing time and resources in myself and in my businesses has required the generosity of networking with multiple people from different disciplines and backgrounds which had helped me achieve what I want. When networking, I allow others to see me for what I stand for whereas connecting with them to explore ideas and opportunities.

So, in what way is your network your net worth? Networking with friends, colleagues, and others from different disciplines gives me access to a diverse set of skills that I can cross-pollinate with my own area of expertise to innovate. For example, as a conservation biologist managing a team of scientists, I used the APG for business as the basis for an environmental leadership program. Networking also gives me new and often private information about current science, technology, engineering and NS trends, which are important to position myself for future cross-disciplinary business opportunities. Additionally, the larger my network, the greater the amount of private information I get access to. Why is this important? Because information is wealth and power, which in turn dictates how much influence I can have personally and professionally.
