‘THINKING’ —

YOUR OPERATIONAL SYSTEM

I think that the first person in the field of NLP who may have had the first inklings that NLP should have (or could have) been formatted as a Thinking Model was Leslie Cameron Bandler. I say that because it was Leslie who, while was running ‘classic NLP patterns’ (Movie Rewind, Circle of Excellence, Change Personal History, Collapsing Anchors), discovered that certain thinking patterns could completely undermine the pattern.

This answered the question, “Why, at certain times with certain people, do the patterns not work?” “What is interfering or blocking the pattern?” Leslie’s answer created the original list of nine or so meta-programs along with Richard Bandler. This discovery essentially revealed a critical principle for running patterns. Namely, “There are some ways of thinking or perceiving that can not only get in the way of running a pattern, they can completely prevent the working of the pattern.”
