Being thrust into an unknown situation and dealing with uncertainty is a challenge. These challenges often happen to a modeler. It happened to me when first learning advanced mathematics and again when thrust into the Vietnam jungle as a medic. And ten years later, in 1980, when I had to figure out why we could not get our satellite to see the stars.

It is also a challenge for people when first learning NLP. During his January 2025 Meta-Model presentation, Michael talked about the need to learn NLP techniques at the thinking level. If not, he said, “then people just run the techniques. And it's like a person who has a set of tools, but they have very little understanding of how the tools really work.” Then, Luke Bunder asked whether the Meta-Model could help “people struggling to learn patterns.”

That conversation triggered a memory. It went back to a training I helped create 40 years ago. The training was about the difficulties people had when performing NLP techniques. What learning methods foster a deep understanding of NLP, allowing for flexible application across various contexts?
