I was running an evening of Unleashing Vitality last week and one of the students (who wants to do Practitioner) commented that she “wanted to be just like Alan.” Now I know she meant as a coach or trainer, but I responded, “No, don’t do that. Be the best and most authentic you.”

This is highlights a seeing paradox we have as trainers. We use the same manuals all over the world, we run the same courses and certify to the same requirements and standards. But we are all different.

Another person on the same course I mentioned earlier is already a NLP Master Practitioner. She has only trained with one trainer; Richard Bolstad who I did my original Prac, Master Prac and Trainers Training with. Having only done training with Richard, she has been surprised— and I hope refreshed— by my very different style of training.

So I’ve been thinking about how we distinguish ourselves as Neuro-Semantic Trainers. At NSTT we learn the 4MAT model — How, What, Why and What-If? But here’s my addition of two ideas that add a ‘Who’ as well as deepening the ‘How’. These two aspects are not separate, they are systemic.
