Have you ever needed to discover a new venue for a local event? Last week I was on the hunt for a venue in a new city and I thought I would share my key learnings and tips. While I am not a seasoned expert these tips will be valuable for someone just getting started seeking out a venue for local training event or workshop.

Tip 1: Stay organized. The first thing I did was create a spreadsheet to track important information about the local venues. Some of the columns I utilized: Name, address, phone number, max capacity, primary contact, pricing, a score from 0-10, and a space for any other notes I have. This spreadsheet allows me to have all of my information stored in one place and creates a database for potential future events as well as score the venues for the current event. This way I don’t have to build from scratch next time I need a venue and I can use my notes to continue to build a relationships with the venue's key contact person.
