COACHING PEOPLE WHO ARE RUNNING FROM THEMSELVES
What could sound more ridiculous than trying to run away from yourself?
What could sound more ridiculous than trying to run away from yourself? How silly is that! I bet you can’t get very far! What could sound more futile, non-sensical, and a self-defeating objective? Yet how many people live their lives attempting that very thing? What would you guess? Millions? Billions? And you probably have or will meet some of them as your coaching clients. A scary thought? What will you do? How do you coach that?
And why? Why would a person want to get away from oneself? The problem is that they can’t shut off the noise in their heads. The problem is that they do not like themselves, they do not like their thoughts or emotions about themselves, they do not like their memories of themselves in the past or their anticipations of themselves in the future. So instead of dealing with whatever is causing all of these distressful symptoms, they live their lives in such a way as to announce to anyone listening that they are trying to get away from themselves.
