While the title—competing to collaborate—may sound contradictory or paradoxical, when it comes to real life events, only the collaborate can truly compete. Players in any sports, if they do not collaborate with the rules of the game, the referees, their team mates, the opposing team, etc., they cannot compete. If they violate the rules and principles of collaboration, they would be thrown out of the game.

Question: Why would we compete with each other? Mostly to bring out the best in each other. When two people that are fairly equal in skill are pitted against each other, they both do better. Amazing, isn’t it!? They both do better. It happens in the Olypmics every four years and it happens yearly in National Competitions. Individuals set new records again and again because they have someone at the own level to compete against. This is collaborative competition and is the only kind that is healthy and that serves our well-being and productivity.
