One year ago, February 2016, we changed the “project” that we had been doing in Coaching Mastery from the Business Project to Drills for Skills. Why? For several reasons—we originally focused on the business project as a way to get coaches-in-training to focus on the business model that they would need to be successful in business. Even though we spend time on Day 4 on the Matrix Business Plan, and all of Day 7 on Business, we felt that this was needed. The problem was that the teams spent so much time on the business skills, that we consistently got feedback from the team leaders that it was taking away focus on the coaching skills.

The question then arose: What can we give the teams to do that will keep them focused on the coaching skills? That’s when I got the idea of drills for skills. So one year ago I posed this to the team leaders there in Egypt and to Mohamed and Hossam who were co-training with me and we decided to go with it. Since then every Coaching Mastery program has engaged in the drills for skills project.
