INTRODUCING DEEP AND AUTHENTIC PERSUASION

Why a new work on the subject of persuasion?

Why a new work on the subject of persuasion? Mainly because it’s what we all do and what we all do every day of our lives. Also because your success, or lack of it, depends on your ability to effectively influence others, that’s why! Is that enough? Do you not want to persuade people to come to your trainings? Do you not want to effectively persuade key decision makers in organizations?

One of my first explorations into persuasion was with Richard Bandler’s book, Persuasion Engineering (1996). After the book came out, I wrote a review of it and eventually that led to writing a monogram (1997, Persuasion Engineering Simplified) which was an analysis of the structure of how Bandler thought about persuasion. Basically he thought of it as a way to get people to do what you want regardless of whether it is in their best interests. The way to persuade in that book is induce a fetish state of intense desire in a person and then point to your product. Presto! You have a sale. To say that Richard did not appreciate me exposing that strategy is an under-statement.
