There is a human tendency to criticize, reproach, insult, and discount another person in order to build oneself up. It’s really a sick tendency. And it is a tendency destructive of healthy relationships. Based on the scarcity idea of win/lose, it uses the model of limited resources for the area abundant intangible resources.

It is the petty thinking that if I see you having superior skills compared to my skills, or a more abundant attitude or influence, then if I can tear you down—I’ll be better by comparison. This is the foundation of the cognitive fallacy, ad hominen. Here you tear down an argument by attacking the person.
