I recently read “The Business of Belief: How the World’s Best Marketers, Designers, Salespeople, Coaches, Fundraisers, Educators, Entrepreneurs and Other Leaders Get Us to Believe” by Tom Asacker. I want to share a few reflections from the book that pertain to our role as trainers.
The Challenge Asacker likens leading change it to a trip across a deep chasm across a rickety old rope bridge to an uncertain other side. The journey across the bridge of self-actualizing is a trip through a cauldron. The knowledge that a new belief will change one’s reality is the rickety bridge to cross, even with the knowledge that new beliefs can provide a more resourceful maps of the world. One has little control over the journey and less certainty of exactly what will happen along the way. The focused commitment that comes with unleashing genius is not for the faint-hearted. Nor is the feeling of uncertainty of what is left when everything that is not human Is stripped away.
