RESPECTING COLLABORATION
In Neuro-Semantics we are all about empowerment of people, putting people at cause, enabling them to think for themselves, make their own choices, and take ownership so that they are the author (authority) of their own lives.
In Neuro-Semantics we are all about empowerment of people, putting people at cause, enabling them to think for themselves, make their own choices, and take ownership so that they are the author (authority) of their own lives. Sounds great, right? Well, yes, and yet there’s a problem in this.
What’s the problem? It is getting independent, empowered, and self-managing people to work effectively together with others. The problem is working together (collaborating) and being good team members.
I wrote about this problem in the paper that I wrote about How To Kill a Movement about the first Human Potential Movement (now a chapter in Self-Actualization Psychology). The “leaders” of the HPM were unable to collaborate. They were in constant competition with each other, each one wanting to “lead” the movement and to be the pioneer planting the flag of their perspective. Does that sound a lot like the current state of affairs in NLP? In their writing prior to the end of that first HPM, many of them claimed to be the sole founder of the movement (!)— I found that in the writings of several even including Will Schultz and Carl Rogers!
