THAT METAPHOR HAS PROBLEMS!

Thinking can go astray.

Thinking can go astray. Actually it’s fairly easy for any of us to make a silly mistakes in thinking. We all do. I do daily. The only saving grace about this is that you and I can become meta-aware of our thinking and, with that, we can continually update our thinking errors. That’s the role of meta-thinking (meta-cognition) and meta-learning. A mistake is nothing, just a mistake—unless you defend it, take it personal, awfulize it, and then get yourself locked up in a rigid principle that you can’t be wrong. Then it is not just a mistake, it is a character flaw.
