THE ART OF HEARING META-LEVELS
If you have ears to hear and eyes to see, you will hear and see your client’s presenting meta- levels.
If you have ears to hear and eyes to see, you will hear and see your client’s presenting meta- levels. And when you are able to calibrate to this, you will be able to “detect meta-levels” —a 3.5 level skill in Meta-Questioning. That’s because by calling attention to the meta-levels, you are asking about and inquiring about meta-levels.
I recently sat with a coach and client as I was benchmarking. The client wanted to stop her procrastination. She had a habit of putting things off to the last minute and while she usually “got by with it,” she knew that it was a matter of time before she would not get by with it. When the coach asked her how she felt about this, she commented: “I don’t like it, well, actually I do because I always get away with it. I just feel lucky about that. Yet I hate it.”
