What does it take in order to master a skill or a field? What distinguishes someone who we consider so highly skillful that the word master would apply? When we began considering these questions in Neuro-Semantics, we looked at the practices of other NLP Associations.

  • Some set criteria in terms of more informational content. At NLP U., that what Robert Dilts does. He has created a master trainer training and when you pay for that and graduate, presto, you are a master. Ultimately it is a matter of attendance and money ($5,000 plus). I have met and know many of these so-called “master” trainers who could not reach a 2.0 on our scale.
  • Some set the criteria of a number of years— from 5 to 10 years. This criteria makes mastery about endurance. This is the approach of some of the European Associations and similarly, I have heard some of them at Conferences and the years did not make them more skilled trainers. It only confirmed certain incompetencies.
