THE NEED FOR TRUE LEADERS Would You like to become a Leader?
There is a sense that when you train people or when you coach, you are a leader.
There is a sense that when you train people or when you coach, you are a leader. You certainly are leading people in understanding the subject of your training. You are certainly leading people to experience a pattern, an insight, a new skill, etc. In that sense, the role of a trainer and that of a coach does exercise some leadership. And yet, most trainers are not leaders. Here I quote the quotable and funny statement by John Maxwell, “He who thinks he leads, but looks around and sees no one following is simply out for a walk.”
Who is following you? Where are you going that people want to go and they go by following you? A true leader leads by his or her personality. People look to them for information, for insight, for encouragement, for focus, for clarity, etc. Now because there are so many kinds of leaders, people will line up to follow you for different objectives.
