How Skipping the Inside Steps will Undermine Your Effectiveness

When you engage in meta-stating, you bring or apply one idea or emotion to another. It is as simple as that. You bring curiosity to learning. Now learning is textured and qualified by curiosity. Curiosity is now the class, category, or frame for learning as a member. Negatively, you could bring boredom or irrelevant to learning and now it will be nearly impossible to learn.

We say there are five essential steps for well-formed meta-stating: access, amplify, apply, appropriate, and analyze. The easy steps are accessing an idea, thought, emotion, or state and analyzing whether the end-result is good for you, ecological. They are easy because they are mostly external responses. The more difficult steps are apply and appropriate. Why? Because they are internal. When you apply to self and/or apply to your life context, that requires the implementation ability. And for that reason, it is easy to skip the internal applying stage. Of course, if or when you do—you miss out on all of the power of the meta-stating process.
