YOU—AS AN EFFICIENCY EXPERT

We know about efficiency!

We know about efficiency! I write that because not only have you learned a model about how to be effective as a person, as a communicator, and in terms of going after what’s really important to you, but that same model also facilitates your understanding and skill-development of efficiency. Warren Bennis famously said, “Leaders do the right things and managers do the things right.” The first describes effectiveness, the second, efficiency.

If you are not doing the right things, you will not be effective. You could very well be efficient, but the efficiency would be in the wrong things. How many people live their lives like that? They are doing the wrong things very efficiently! Yet in the end, what they achieve is really not what they wanted. That’s why for effectiveness we look to make sure that what we are building is well-formed— well-designed. NLP began by giving us the well-formed outcome. Martin Roberts gave us the well-formed problem. When I found that, I took it, expanded it and then designed the well-formed solution, the well-formed innovation, the well-formed business plans. You can find all of that in Creative Solutions (2016).
