I did the Self-Actualisation trainings in Hong Kong last November, and I have been working to wrap my head around the material both for myself and for other contexts like training and coaching. So I'm just going to apply the concept of basic needs satisfaction around training.

Survival needs. Not all of them apply to training, but the ones that do are for example: Basic biology: “The brain-bum connection” - Too much inactive sitting and listening more or less shuts down brain activity. Solutions to this could be group exercises, engaging tasks, discussions that engage participants, energizers etc.

Hunger: Fruit and nuts available at breaks, coffee and tea, water easily available. At our public trainings Anders Wallin has set the bar very high and are offering gourmet quality, home cooked, organic vegetarian meals at lunch and nuts and fruits at the afternoon break. This is not only for nutrition and energy but is also a way of communicating to the participants that “you are important and we will do everything possible for you to have an enjoyable experience at the training.
