Whether we are internal organisational trainers or operating our own businesses, the beginning of yet another new year brings with it the question of how to generate more training opportunities. While there are many directions I can go to address this question, the direction I will take in this Trainers’ Reflection is to address the 'Training Needs Analysis’ (TNA).

There are a number of TNA models available that identify and are used to speak to training and development needs. Unfortunately, most models come across as being quite digital and impersonal. This is primarily because they are a data gathering tool that, for many who experience them, are invasive and clinical. This leads to resistance from the person or organisational representative, inaccurate information gathering, and ultimately a training and development proposal that it inadequate.
