At the recent NSTT that we held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, Michael and I had the opportunity to talk several times and on various topics. One of the most revealing conversations was when we talked about the authority that trainers must assume with their participants, and this was because what Michael told me opened up a completely unknown and new perspective that shook my understanding of the word “authority” and its different implications and applications.
It is likely that I am not the only one with the lack of distinctions regarding the concept of authority. The great discovery I had in that revealing conversation was that in my native language (Spanish), there is no word that refers to the quality and style in which a person lives and exercises his authority in his actions and in his way of communicating with others.
