If you are asking, “Whose magic? And they seeking out what?” then good meta-modeling! The who are the top experts in every field—the Olympic Athletes, the cutting-edge inventors, CEOs, creative geniuses in any and every field. The what do they seek is feedback. Whenever they do something, present something, offer a new idea, present a hypothesis, launch a new company or product—they immediately want to know how did they do. Did it work? To what extent did it work? What can I do to make it work even better?
Last week Miral El Ramlawy wrote an article, “Revisiting the Benchmarks” and highlighted how knowing and using the benchmarks of an experience can accelerate learning, hone in on the finer distinctions, solidify and integrate one’s learning, and moves one forward toward expertise. As I contemplated her words, I was also involved in giving feedback to one of our Master Trainers. Now why would a Master trainer like David Murphy even consider getting feedback? Why would someone at that level seek out more feedback? The answer is actually simple: to move forward to becoming the best of the best.
