What does it mean to step up as a trainer? Stepping up means to your responsibility as a trainer in every context. As I write this, I must confess it’s a last moment rush. My house looks like a building site; it’s being rewired so power supply has been dubious for almost a week, I have no kitchen, just an empty space while I get ready to fit a new one, and I have coaching clients and trainings scheduled for the next few days.

Why am I telling you all this? Well, I could take the attitude that, “I’ve got enough on my plate to worry about… I’ll just let Michael post something.” But that’s not stepping up. There’s a lot of background work that goes into training and I’ve heard other trainers express a lackadaisical attitude such as, “don’t worry about it, your students won’t know you’ve cut corners”. So here are a few areas I’d like to offer where you might step up and follow through:

• Always provide quality resources. Whether that’s the pens you hand out or the quality of the printing of your manuals.
