In Meta-Coaching we put a lot of emphasis on opening your eyes and ears and actually seeing and hearing the processes behind the person’s content as well as the accompanying movements, postures, gestures, etc. that the person is offering in the coaching conversation. It takes a lot of active listening to do this. A lot! A whole lot. It is so easy and seductive to get caught up in the person’s content and story and forget to watch how the person is expressing him or herself.

“Oh you mean watch their body language? Yeah, right. I can do that.”

Actually, that is not what I mean. Yes, I know that all of your life you have heard about “body language,” you probably have talked about “body language, and you may have even read or bought books for your library on “Body Language.” You may even believe in body language. You may believe that there is such a thing as the “language” of the body.
