When I met Glen at the coffee shop the other day and he asked what I did, I briefly told him about Neuro-Semantics. Then he asked a strange question, one that I had never been asked before. “What is the expertise that Neuro-Semanticists have and can demonstrate?” In many ways, that is like asking, “What is NLP?” There are many answers.

My first thought was to talk about the NLP Communication Model, and how we have learned how to create clear and precise information, but as I thought about that I could hear how vague and fluffy it was. I then thought, the value of clear information is for self-awareness and better relationships. But that’s also up in the air! The next benefit that popped in my mind was “build up one’s personal resources.” But again, fluff. That’s not an expert skill or competency that you can take to the bank.

I replayed the question in my mind, “What is the expertise that Neuro-Semanticists have and can demonstrate?” Then I recalled the subtitle of the book, Neuro-Linguistic Programming: “The Study of the Structure of Subjective Experience.” So I used that in my answer.
