YOU’RE A TRAINER, BUT ARE YOU A COLLABORATIVE LEADER?
In the field of self-development, learning, training, and so on there seems to be a very, very powerful thought virus that keeps people from effectively collaborating.
In the field of self-development, learning, training, and so on there seems to be a very, very powerful thought virus that keeps people from effectively collaborating. Perhaps it is the occupational hazard that goes along with focusing on and enabling people to become responsible for oneself, independent, and proactive. By focusing on these issues—development of oneself and independence —perhaps it is this which gets out of balance.
Of course, the result is an over-emphasis on self, on doing things by oneself, and of wanting to do things your way. Do you know that one? With this a person finds it unpleasant to have to compromise and work alongside of others who want to do things their way. The research I did into the history of the Human Potential Movement revealed that this is one of the places where that movement got stuck and which eventually helped to undermine and defeat that movement. When it eventually ended, it did so because there was too much individualism and not enough community- spirit. This was also the culture in the USA at the that time, and so it influenced the history of the NLP movement from the very beginning.
