When I first heard the announcement that Michael Jackson had died, I felt that it was sad and tragic death. It was also shocking; I didn’t expect it at all. And yet, in the end, it was just a death, the death of a celebrity. And in many ways a death like so many deaths of Hollywood people and entertainers full of high drama. It reminded me of Elvis’ death in 1977. I was there. Well, not in Graceland, but it just so happened that I was in Memphis that August when news of his death came, and having seen him on TV when he got really fat in his Los Vegas specials, and hearing all about the drug use, it didn’t surprise me.
